65th anniversary of the establishment of the Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems
From 6 to 8 September 2023 in Almaty, an international scientific-practical conference “Biotechnology and Biological Safety: achievements and prospects” was held, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems, a subsidiary organization of the national holding “QazBioPharm”. The aim of the conference was to discuss and analyze topical issues in the field of biological safety and biotechnology, informing scientific and industrial society about new scientific achievements in these fields. About 225 scientists and specialists from 8 countries of the world (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, USA, France, Singapore) and 60 scientific institutions and centers of higher education participated in the conference.
More than 200 scientists and specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, the USA, France, and Singapore took part in the conference. Representatives of both scientific and educational institutions took an active part in the conference. Sixty scientific institutions and higher education centers were represented at the conference. The conference was held with the support of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministries of Health and Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The wide coverage of the professional spectrum and geography of participants confirms the relevance of the conference topic and the issues considered within its framework.
Acting General Director of the Institute Aslan Amageldiyevich Kerimbayev made an opening speech that marked the opening of the conference. President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Kunsulu Daltonovna Zakarya, Head of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of Almaty – Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Almaty Kasymkhan Alpysbayuly, Chairman of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Baurzhan Kemerbaevich Abyzbaev made welcoming remarks words to the conference participants.

Scryabin, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Rysbek Zaryldykovich Nurgaziev, Director of the JSC Scientific Center for Anti-Infective Drugs, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Alexander Ivanovich Ilyin sent congratulatory addresses to the Institute.
The conference was structured in four sections: “Fundamental aspects of the study of infectious pathogens”, “Preventive, diagnostic and anti-infective drugs”, “Biosafety and bioethics”, “Phytosanitary safety, breeding and plant protection”. During the conference, domestic and foreign scientists exchanged views on the most pressing problems of science. Participants presented 50 scientific reports.
As part of the conference, a competition was held among young scientists for the best research. Based on the results of the competition, the winners received diplomas and gifts. Shynybekova G.O. awarded a 1st degree diploma for the presented research “Study of the spread of tick-borne pathogens on the territory of Kazakhstan”. Diplomas of the 2nd degree were received by Abaeva M.R. for the presented research “Testing a test system for the diagnosis of lumpy dermatitis in cattle” and Kirpichenko V.V. for the presented research “Epizootological characteristics of the south-eastern region of the Republic of Kazakhstan on infectious rhinotracheitis of cattle for the period from 2021 to 2023”. Diplomas 3rd degree were received by Abai Zh.S. for the work “Assessment of the safety, protective efficacy and immunogenicity of the vector vaccine against bovine tuberculosis”, Berillo D.A. for the work “Antimicrobial activity of silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles stabilized by extracts of herbs, rhizomes and roots of Paeonia anomala and Calendula officinalis” and Argimbaeva T.U. for the work “Preparation and evaluation of a recombinant capripoxvirus expressing the receptor-binding domain S protein of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2”.
At the end of the conference, the scientific and practical significance of the problems discussed was noted. The conference participants expressed gratitude for the high level of its organization, the cordiality and hospitality shown, as well as the desire for further scientific and professional cooperation.
